Uganda Cranes Left Back Aziz Kayondo Joins Israeli Giants Hapoel Tel Aviv on Loan

Former Vipers SC left-back Abdul Aziz Kayondo has made a significant move in his career, officially joining the Israeli Premier League side Hapoel Tel Aviv on loan from Spanish club CD Leganes.

The talented 20-year-old defender, hailing from Kyazanga in Lwengo district, has inked a one-year loan contract to showcase his skills in Israel for the upcoming twelve months. Hapoel Tel Aviv will closely monitor his performance during this period to determine whether to exercise the second-year option specified in his contractual agreement with CD Leganes.

In an official statement, Hapoel Tel Aviv announced, “Aziz Abdul Kayondo, left-winger/defender from Spanish side Leganes, has completed his move to our club.” The contract includes an option for an additional season, subject to successful medical tests scheduled for later this week.

Aziz Kayondo had been playing for CD Leganes B team since his arrival during the 2022 summer transfer window. Just recently, he had the opportunity to represent the senior team in a preseason friendly against Hapoel, where his performance caught the attention of Hapoel Tel Aviv.

Following the friendly match against Hapoel Tel Aviv, discussions between the two clubs progressed rapidly, leading to a successful agreement on Tuesday, July 26th, 2023.

With this move, Aziz Kayondo becomes one of the few Ugandan players to play in the Israeli Premier League. He joins the ranks of Fahad Bayo and Timothy Awanyi, who both previously showcased their talents with Ashdod FC.
