Calls for Bruno Fernandes to be stripped of Man United captaincy loom loud

Bruno Fernandes

In the aftermath of their 7-0 heavy defeat at the hands of the arch rivals Liverpool, calls for Bruno Fernandes to be stripped of the Manchester United captaincy loom loud.

Fernandes deputizes the team in the absence of club lead captain and England International Harry Maguire.

The 28-year-old was heavily criticized for his behaviour and attitude in the game with former captain Roy Keane calling it “disgraceful while Gary Neville thought it was “embarrassing” to say the least on the night.

“There are people that are far better qualified to be captain. Fernandes is not their best leader. There are more suitable candidates than him, Casemiro being one,” Sutton said while speaking on BBC 5 Live’s Monday Night Club.

Late in the game, Fernandes was scene shrugging his arms and sauntering just after losing this ball in his own half.

“That was a standout moment. However bad United were, you cannot just let someone run away from you and give up. That’s what the captain of Manchester United did – and that’s a bad look.

“I don’t think he has any real arguments if he does get stripped of the captaincy. I think Bruno’s days have to be numbered,” he added.

Even though Fernandes has scored 57 times and made 50 assists in 166 appearances for the Red Devils, his contact on Sunday was wanting and was seen to have pushed the assistant referee in the 81st minute.
