Zamalek President Mortada Mansour begins to serve his 30 days in jail

Mortada Mansour was sent to prison for thirty days as a punishment for using insulting words against the president of Al Ahly football club Mahmoud El-Khatib.

On Sunday 26th February, the court in Egypt decided to sentence President Mansour after seeing his appeal against the decision denied by the Court of Appeal in Egypt.

Al Ahly’s President El-Khatib in August last year filled two defamation cases against Mortada Mansour which he lost in the Court.

The Court initially made a decision that he would be sentenced to jail for almost a full year, however the court later reduced the punishment to only one month.

Mansour appealed against the one month decision though he lost his appeal and the one-month sentence in jail was upheld, meaning the Zamalek football club president had to be jailed.

Immediately after the final decision, Mansour Mortada reacted to the news by saying that; “Finally, the president of the Al Ahly jailed the president of the Zamalek for the first time in the history of the sport”.

The president added that, “The appeal has been refused, pending the decision of the heavenly judge Almighty God. Don’t worry about me, lions are not afraid of death, and they are not afraid of being imprisoned either”.

His one month spell behind closed doors will reportedly end on 25th , March 2023.
